US military chopper makes ‘hard landing’ in Maryland

A US military helicopter made a “hard landing” in the US state of Maryland on Monday, injuring at least one of the crew, officials said.

“A Fort Belvoir UH-60 Helicopter, with three crew members on board, had a hard landing at approximately 1:50 p.m. near Leonardtown, MD. One of the crew members was medically evacuated from the scene,” the Fort Belvoir Army installation said on its Facebook page.

The military frequently describes what appear to be serious crashes as “hard landings,” even when aircraft are completely wrecked.

The helicopter crashed on a golf course in St. Mary’s County in southern Maryland outside Washington, The Washington Post reported.

The paper published a photo showing the remnants of a green helicopter that appeared completely destroyed.

The Army did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
