Foremost and talented Yoruba actor who plays diverse roles on stage, Mr. Abdurasak Adewale Sokoti has applauded Nollywood actress and multiple brand ambassador, Funke Akindele-Bello, aka Jenifa for her selection as a member of the cast of upcoming 2018 superhero movie, Avengers: Infinity War.
The legendary Sokoti who was once deputy governor, Lagos state chapter of Association of National Theater Arts Practitioners (ANTP), in a statement made available to the media on Thursday evening stated that Funke Akindele’s unprecedented feat in the industry will lift Nollywood, Nigeria’s film industry to a higher pedestal in the global scene.
He said, ”Again this latest milestone, in my view will serve as a concrete visual representation of Nigeria’s greatness and a positive outcome of hard work by one of us in Nollyhood that Nigerian film makers have similar qualities if not better qualities than their peers in the Western world, despite the country’s prevailing challenges.”

Sokoti’s statement added: ”Funke Akindele has proved another point to the world, not just to Nigerians that she is a thorough bred, who can demonstrate competence and capacity in the movie business at the global scene. I am indeed proud of her previous and current achievements. Her efforts to unlock all barriers undermining Nigeria’s journey to destination at the global front must be celebrated and largely applauded. I am sure Nigerians can’t wait to see our Funke on the big screen when the movie premieres in May, 2018.”
It would be recalled that Funke Akindele’s name recently appeared on the cast list on IMDb, a popular source for movie content, and Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as a Dora Milaje Member, a team of women who serve as personal bodyguards of the Black Panther, the spiritual leader of Wakanda. She will feature alongside top Hollywood actors from Don Cheadle and Chris Pratt to Scarlett Johansson. This makes it the first time a Nigerian-born actor will feature in a Hollywood superhero movie.
The storyline of the new series reads, “The Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”
